The Context

In 2025, we supported a fun residential project in East London defined by pure creative energy. Jake, album artwork designer and music fanatic, and his partner Vicky renovated a neglected Arts & Crafts house in Woodford Green that had been untouched for years. We helped realise Jake’s vision for a dedicated at-home DJ studio by providing both an aesthetic and practical storage solution for his beloved music collection. 

The pair of East Londoners saw the dilapidated property as a blank canvas that they could breathe new life into. They set out to inject each and every room with a sense of playfulness, transforming the faded space into a vibrant, rainbow-hued sanctuary. It’s a modern tribute to the original spirit of the Arts & Crafts movement, achieved through craft, graft and an eye for colour.

Our Contribution

Jake required a dedicated environment that could house his extensive record collection while doubling as an inspiring workspace for his design projects. What started as a spider-ridden shed became a bright, liveable contemporary garden studio, courtesy of their architect. Once refurbished, we provided a comprehensive interior fit-out, consisting of various U-Build boxes, parts and structures, to organise, catalogue and proudly display the vast vinyl archive. 

We developed our modular record storage cubes with Audio Gold to provide the perfect storage solution to an enduring dilemma for record collectors. All in plywood, the fit-out included a combination of standard and made-to-measure boxes, a built-in desk, bespoke shelving, furniture legs and a dedicated DJ booth.

Our U-Builders were on site to assemble the many components together and bring the vision to life. The result is a seamless, functional space where Jake can design future record sleeves while surrounded by the music that inspires his work.

Our raw-finish plywood boxes arrive flat-packed and are designed for rapid assembly using an electric drill, or a simple screwdriver and mallet. Simple in design, the beauty of the U-Build system lies in its flexibility; you can use a single box as a standalone piece, stack or bolt several together to create a custom configuration that fits your space perfectly. Best of all, the entire system is fully demountable, allowing your storage to evolve alongside your collection.
