The U-Build Box Library
Our Box Library, a reconfigurable structure made from our repurposed plywood stage boxes and columns, serves as both a storage container and prototype for the demountable system it houses. Open-access for anyone interested, our lending system is free-to-use.
Our plywood boxes have already lived many exciting lives, from a pop-up stage to host DJ decks and an intimate seating area, to an exhibition wall or a pop-up skate park. The plywood boxes can be used for educational purposes, to promote construction practice as a viable interest to anyone, through to engaging with activism and celebrating the power of community.
The initiative gives the boxes multiple lives, contributing essential materials, and exemplifying the circular economy. The boxes can turn up completely flat-packed, for speedy reconstruction using simple off-the-shelf screws and a driver. They can then be bolted together to create various structures and shapes. Once the parts are dismantled, they are able to be taken to other locations for further use, or put into our storage container (made of more boxes), until required again. This is part of our usual effort to promote a circular economy. If these units are no longer required at a certain location, we can hopefully offer them to another project, as part of our circular principles.
We have up to 300 plywood stage boxes and 8 cut-out columns available for you to borrow and enjoy. If you’re looking to set up an event or maybe just create some temporary storage, you could pick up a small quantity of boxes to help with your project. You may need a car big enough to fit all the boxes in.
Please note borrowing boxes is subject to availability.
